KS1 Christmas at Strangers' Hall

The event

Celebrate Christmas Victorian-style! Experience the Great Hall set up ready for Christmas with a festive tree and traditional decorations. Meet three costumed characters, all members of the Bolingbroke household, who'll lead you in an exploration of some similarities and differences between Christmas in the past and celebrations today. Enjoy storytelling, a tour of the Toy Room, and a craft session in which you can make your own Victorian Christmas decoration to take home.

Aims and learning outcomes

History

  • Inspire pupils' curiosity about the past and equip them to ask perceptive questions, think critically and weigh evidence.
  • Engage pupils with museum objects as sources of inspiration, knowledge and exploration.
  • Recognise similarities and differences between objects from the past and their modern equivalents. Find out about changes in social history and Christmas traditions.
